ACTRAV Project on Child Labour

Project details

1 April 2009 -

Government of Norway

Mr. Magnus Berge

The Norwegian funded Child Labour Project in ACTRAV has,in various forms, been operational since the mid 1990s. Since 2004, it has been part of a Framework Agreement on Programme Cooperation between the Norwegian Government and the ILO. For 2009 - 2010 the Programme is called Advancing Tripartite Action and is being implemented by three different units at the ILO, namely ACTRAV, ACT/EMP and IPEC - each responsible for a child labour project.

The main aim and objective of the ACTRAV project is to strengthen the capacity of trade unions to participate in combating child labour. Development of trade union policies and integration of child labour into the other core areas of trade union work is at the heart of these efforts.

The main target group is the national trade union federations, but we also work with international structures such as ITUC and sectoral unions. The ultimate beneficiaries will be the children most at risk, those working under forced labour conditions and engaged in hazardous work.
