ILO participates in the Framework Conference of the Ibero-American Network for the Promotion of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE)

This network, driven by Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico, Spain and Portugal, aims to consolidate a regional group that promotes the SSE.

Mexico City, Mexico, 31 January 2024 - The ILO Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Ana Virginia Moreira Gomes, joined representatives of government, international organizations and other bodies for the opening of the Framework Conference of the Ibero-American Network for the Promotion of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE).


The resolution promotes a number of principles such as the achievement of fundamental labour rights, the transition from informal to formal economies, the integration of an inclusive, integrated and gender-sensitive approach, as well as valuing the local rootedness of the SSE.

He further stated that "the ILO, through its international standards, recognises the Social and Solidarity Economy as a relevant means to achieve sustainable development, social justice, decent work, productive employment and better living standards for all people".

The Framework Conference of the Ibero-American Network for the Promotion of the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) also addressed issues related to the constitution of the Network, the role of enterprises and international organizations, migration in the region and the role of the SSE in the face of inequality.

The event was held from 29 to 31 January at the premises of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
