Transformative impact of artificial intelligence and digitalization on health and safety in the workplace

The national dialogue on the implications of AI for OSH in Indonesia will ensure that all stakeholders are well-informed, engaged, and prepared to harness these technologies to create safer and healthier workplaces.

Background

Occupational safety and health (OSH) remain significant global concerns, with work-related accidents and diseases causing nearly three million deaths annually. In Indonesia, where industrialization and digital transformation are prevalent, strengthening OSH practices is crucial for protecting the nation's 140 million workforce.

Indonesia has made progress in advancing OSH, with regulations established and infrastructure developed. However, challenges persist, including regulatory adaptation, social and demographic issues, climate change, and rapid technological advancements. Insufficient enforcement of existing regulations is a concern.

Technological advancements, such as robotics and artificial intelligence, can improve worker safety and health by freeing workers from monotonous responsibilities and reducing musculoskeletal disorders or mental health issues.

ILO Indonesia is holding a series of activities to examine the impacts of digitalization and AI on workers' safety and health, focusing on new technologies like advanced robots, AI, exoskeletons, UAVs, IoT, and virtual and augmented reality. The event will also explore new work practices, such as automation, big data analysis, and AI-driven workers management.

Format

This event will build on the previous panel discussion by offering a more in-depth exploration of AI application on OSH. It will include expert-led presentations, interactive panel discussions, and Q&A. A networking segment during break and lunch will serve to facilitate meaningful connections and knowledge sharing.
