Strengthening Patchouli Oil Value-Chain Ecosystem in Aceh

Establishing and digitizing a new ecosystem for the patchouli oil value chain in the Aceh region is one of the ongoing initiatives of the Promise 2 Impact Project, which is aiming to promote financial inclusion throughout project intervention. This will be the third ecosystem that the Project support. It is a collaborative effort of the Project, OJK, and CMEA.

Background and Introduction

MSMEs take significant roles in Indonesia’s economy and GDP growth. The Government estimates they are more than 64.2 million MSMEs in Indonesia and they are associated with 60.5% of annual GDP growth and absorbs 97% of the workforce in the country.

Objectives

In order to develop a comprehensive strategy to enhance patchouli oil production, the ILO Promise 2 Impact Project collaborate with TPAKD Province Aceh, will facilitate a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) between Regional Governments and National Patchouli Industry Stakeholders.

The FGD aims to facilitate dialogue among key stakeholders to raise awareness of the current challenges of the overall patchouli oil industries and finding the priority actions that could address these challenges effectively. By bringing together representatives from various segments of the patchouli value chain, including farmers, processors, off-takers, and policymakers, the FGD seeks to identify and discuss the most critical issues affecting the industry's sustainability.

Expected outputs

This forum is expected to produce the following agenda:

Identification and validation of key problems and challenges in national/regional patchouli oil ecosystem/industries.
Developing a preliminary-general action plan for regional and national level.
Identification of the involvement of key stakeholders from the industry, financial sector, and others to achieve the overall strategy objective.

Event formats and Targeted participants

The Chairman of OJK, The Ambassador of Switzerland, ILO and TPAKD will visit the Centre of Patchouli Ecosystem in Lhoong, Aceh Besar, this event will also combine with ceremonial on distribution access to finance for patchouli farmers.

It will be held in the ILO Intervention Area, Lhoong Village Aceh Besar on Monday, 14 October 2024 at 14.00 – 17.00 WIB.
This is a hybrid event where around 175 participants are invited from various institutions including national and regional governments, private sectors, and relevant associations. 75 participants of them will attend the event on-site, while the remaining attendees will join online.

It will be held in Hermes Palace Hotel on Wednesday, 16 October 2024 at 09.00 – 12.00 WIB.
