Introductory Training on Labour Market Information and Analysis

The training aims at familiarizing non-statistical stakeholders with the use of labour market information, including the data source (LFS) and the processes involved in generating it; and with basic issues involved in the analysis of labour market information (LMI).

Mongolia has a well-developed system of labour market information, which enables fairly smooth production of globally monitored indicators, including a sub-set of SDG and Decent Work Indicators. Regular and frequent implementation of household-based surveys by the National Statistics Office (NSO), such as the Labour Force Surveys (LFS) and Household Income Expenditure Surveys, with questionnaires that collect a rich set of information on individual and household characteristics forms a strong backbone for further development of labour market information system (LMIS) and analysis. LFS is the main source of representative statistics that can be used to monitor and analyze the labour market outcomes. While there is scope for improving the implementation method of this survey, including the sampling design and questionnaire, to be able to adopt the 19th ICLS “Resolution concerning statistics of work, employment and labour underutilization”, existing data can still be used to better monitor and analyze the labour market, through production of a set of SDG and decent work indicators that can be produced and through enhanced analytical capacity of the data users to better utilize and interpret the indicators and statistics.
