Inter-Regional Knowledge-Sharing Forum on Child Labour and Working Conditions in ASGM

The Inter-regional Knowledge-Sharing Forum on Child Labour and Working Conditions in Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) is scheduled to be held on 28-30 May 2019 in Manila. The ILO's CARING Gold Mining Project (Convening Actors to Reduce Child Labour and Improve Working Conditions in ASGM), a global project with pilot areas in Ghana and the Philippines, will provide a venue for various stakeholders to develop solutions to address the issues of child labour and poor working conditions in the sector.

The meeting will focus on issues of child labour and working conditions in ASGM, which are linked to decent work and compliance with Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work for workers, families and communities in the sector. The event is organized by the International Training Center (ITC) of the ILO.

The meeting will serve as a platform for experts and global actors on ASGM to exchange knowledge and technologies on ASGM, and explore how various issues on child labour and working conditions in ASGM can be sustainably addressed.

The meeting is also supported by partners from USDOL, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Ban Toxics, among others.

Participants will come from Ghana, Philippines, Africa, Asia and South America representing governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations, international non-government organizations, civil society organizations, miners’ groups and their communities and ASGM supply chain actors.
