The Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions was launched by the UN Secretary-General in September 2021 to promote a job-rich recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Indonesia, through the Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas, confirmed Indonesia’s high-level commitment on 7 July 2023 and the Government of Indonesia and the United Nations agreed to collaborate on inclusive employment and social protection policies and programmes.

The Indonesia Roadmap of Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transition was developed between August 2023 and March 2024, involving drafting committee meetings and consultative meetings with tripartite and civil society organizations; and presented during the UNGA SDG Acceleration Day on 17 September 2023. Two UN Joint Programmes were developed to implement the Roadmap and officially funded by UN Joint SDG Fund starting 26 December 2024. These programmes are implemented by UN agencies in Indonesia: ILO, UNICEF, UNDP; and the World Bank; under the coordination of the UN Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO).

Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas is responsible for leading the implementation of the Indonesia Roadmap of Global Accelerator (GA) and the two UN Joint Programmes.

On 10 June 2025, a launching event was hosted by Bappenas, ILO, UNICEF, UNDP, and the World Bank at Bappenas Hall, Jl. Taman Suropati, Menteng. In the event, Vice Minister of Bappenas, Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard officially endorsed the Indonesia Roadmap and launched the two UN Joint Programmes on Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection.
