Fifth Meeting of the Special Tripartite Committee established under the Maritime Labour Convention

The Meeting of the Special Tripartite Committee established under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC, 2006) serves to review and propose amendments to the convention's standards, ensuring they remain relevant to the evolving maritime industry. Its primary purpose is to facilitate collaboration between governments, employers, and workers to improve the working conditions of seafarers globally.

  • The amendments adopted by the fifth meeting of the STC were approved, on 6 June 2025, by an overwhelming majority of delegates to the 113th session of the International Labour Conference. The amendments were notified to member States on 23 June 2025, in accordance with Article XV, paragraph 6 of the MLC, 2006. The period to express formal disagreement will end on 23 June 2027. The amendments are expected to enter into force on 23 December 2027, in accordance with Article XV, paragraph 7 of the MLC, 2006.
