Seminar theme was 'The New Millennium - Challenges for employment-intensive investments'

The Eighth Regional Seminar for Labour-based Practitioners took place over a five-day period, from 15 – 19 October 2000, in Cairo, Egypt. It was hosted and organised by The Egyptian Social Fund for Development (SFD), in collaboration with the ILO’s Advisory Support, Information Services, and Training Programme in Africa (ASIST).
The theme of the seminar was 'the new millenium - challenges for employment intensive investments'.
The sub-themes covered in the seminar included the following: urban communities and socio-economic issues; rural infrastructure development; policy and implementation issues; capacity building; rural travel and transport. The seminar also included site visits to witness labour-based technology in practice in and around Cairo
