Dialogue with policy makers on advancing the role of Indonesia’s Tourism Sectoral Skills Committee

The ILO through the GA project has successfully supported the government to formally establish a Sector Skills Committee in Tourism Sector (herein after Tourism SSC) through the issuance of a Ministerial Decision No. SK/31/HK.01.02/MP/2025.

Background

The Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions (GA Project), launched by the UN in September 2021, aims to support a job-rich recovery from COVID-19 and promote sustainable, inclusive transitions.

Indonesia expressed interest in joining in June 2023, leading to the development of a national roadmap.

Two programs were launched on 10 June 2025, focusing on modern and adaptive social protection and skills development systems for transforming Indonesia.

The first program, "Modern and adaptive social protection and skills development systems for transforming Indonesia," focuses on accelerating social transformation and economic transformation to advance the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia.

The second program, "Sectoral Skills Councils or Committees (SSC)," aims to align vocational training with labour market needs.

The Tourism SSC, the first of its kind in Indonesia, is tasked with addressing industry needs and aligning vocational education and training with labour market demands and technological advancements.

Objective

The objective of the dialogue with key policymakers in Indonesia is to provide policy inputs that guide the implementation of the newly established Tourism.
