Context: This knowledge exchange is being facilitated as part of the ILO-Brazil South-South Cooperation Program which promotes technical collaboration among countries of the region and the sharing of the Brazilian experiences and good practices in data generation, labour inspection and local coordination between key actors to implement national policies to combat child labour.

Belize became the most recent signatory to the Regional Initiative in 2023 after formally approving an updated National Child Labour Policy and Strategy 2022-2025 which aims “to reduce the incidence of child labour in Belize, and take significant steps to eliminate the worst forms of child labour by 2025.” At the invitation of the Government of Belize, counterparts from the Brazilian Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ministry of Social Development, the Brazilian Cooperation Agency ABC/MRE, the ILO Brazil and Regional Initiative Technical Secretariat (ILO POS) will participate in this in-person exchange which is seen as a vital opportunity for the mutual sharing of good practices and lessons learnt in the abovementioned areas, that can subsequently be tailored to the specific needs of both Belize and Brazil.
