Country Report for Jordan

The Impact of Trade and Investment Policies on Productive and Decent Work

METI Programme

This Country Report identifies the key issues to be addressed, and the policies and measures to be implemented in order to realize the potential to create more decent and productive employment in Jordan.

The Report argues that trade and investment are key avenues to achieve this goal. Policies that improve the export potential of tradable sectors and foster structural transformation through investment would increase productivity and create jobs. This, in turn, would support the absorption of highly qualified workers entering the labour market.

However, policy areas are strongly interlinked. A careful integration of employment issues into trade and investment policies is therefore needed to ensure an equal distribution of the gains made through liberalization efforts.
