GALAB project enhances technical skills of implementing partners to combat child labour and forced labour in Ghana

The Global Accelerator Lab (GALAB) project of the International Labour Organization (ILO) recently concluded a three-day training workshop for implementing partners in the Oti Region, Ghana. The workshop aimed to equip partners with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively implement project activities and achieve its objectives of combating child and forced labour.

ACCRA (ILO News) – The GALAB project, funded by the United States Department of Labour (USDOL), is working to intensify action against child and forced labour in Ghana and other countries through innovative approaches and partnerships. The workshop provided participants with invaluable insights into financial management, technical reporting, and project monitoring.

One of the key objectives of the workshop was to ensure that partners are well-versed in the financial rules and procedures governing the project. Participants learned about the types of contracts, procurement processes, and administrative conditions that must be adhered to. This training will help to reduce the risk of non-compliance and ensure that funds are managed responsibly.

"This workshop has been incredibly helpful," said one participant. "The training on financial management and technical reporting has given me a clearer understanding of my responsibilities and how to ensure that our project activities are implemented efficiently and effectively."

In addition to financial management, the workshop also covered technical reporting and project monitoring. Participants were introduced to the GALAB project’s reporting templates and learned how to effectively track and report on project activities. This will enable partners to provide accurate and timely information to the project team and stakeholders.

Vanessa Phala, Director, ILO Country Office for Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia, who was represented by Bismark Quartery and Paul Kukwaw, National Programme Coordinators for the GALAB Project, emphasized the importance of capacity building in achieving the GALAB project's objectives. "By equipping implementing partners with the necessary skills and knowledge, we are empowering them to make a significant contribution to the elimination of child and forced labour in Ghana," she said. "The success of the GALAB project depends on the effective implementation of its activities by our partners on the ground."

The Strategy Development to Boost Social Protection Registration in Ondo State is delivered as part of the GALAB project, funded by the United States Department of Labor (USDOL) and implemented by the ILO as part of its 8.7 Accelerator Lab network. GALAB tackles child labour (SDG Target 8.7) in six countries.

It works with communities to address root causes through policy changes, skills training, and social protection. By collaborating with the Alliance 8.7, GALAB empowers communities to break the cycle of child labour and build a future where all children can thrive.
