Weaving Gender: Challenges and opportunities for the Myanmar garment industry

Weaving Gender: Challenges and Opportunities for the Myanmar Garment Industry provides detailed information on the results of a gender-equality assessment (GEA) carried out in 16 Yangon-based factories in Myanmar’s garment sector.

The GEA uses a mix of quantitative and qualitative research methods with workers, supervisors, representatives of basic labour organizations (BLO) and human resources management to obtain fresh information on career advancement and skills training, workplace sexual harassment and abuse, and employees’ sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues. The objective was to establish an accurate picture of gender equality in these factories and it provides important insights into the issues for women working in the sector, which are of relevance to all industry stakeholders.
