As the world’s primary energy source, the oil and gas industry has shaped the global economy for centuries.

The ILO promotes the right to a safe and healthy working environment for all workers in the industry, with special attention to those in polar and subarctic climate zones of the northern hemisphere and those in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The ILO convened the technical meeting on the future of work in the oil and gas industry for its constituents to reach consensus on a defining challenge of our time: how to advance a just energy transition.

These estimates cannot be directly compared across different periods and may be updated as new information becomes available. The estimates provided and published by the ILO may differ from those produced and released at the national level.
