The power of TVET- Skills training for sustainable growth

Maha Katta, ILO Senior Resilience and Crisis Response Specialist, participated in a Spotlight Session on the power of TVET for refugees and host communities. The event took place during the staring day of the Global Refugee Forum.

The Spotlight Session called "The power of TVET- Skills training for sustainable growth" took place during the staring day of the Global Refugee Forum 2019 organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva in the third week of December 2019.

In her intervention, Maha Katta, ILO Senior Resilience and Crisis Response Specialist, highlighted the importance of skills development to achieve social cohesion. The ILO specialist based in Jordan, mentioned that the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), has a strong impact for refugees and host communities, and has the power to turn crisis into opportunities.

Maha Katta participated in the spotlight session together with representatives of Omnia Education Partnerships, Finn Church Aid, Luminus Technical University College and diplomatic missions. Beside the voices of experts and specialists, a refugee student from South America was invited to share his voice and personal experience.
