We train ambassadors of safe and declared work — Yevhen Romat, festival organizer
Yevhen Romat, Professor of the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, the soul and heart of the Ukrainian Student Advertising Festival, shares his thoughts about collaboration with the ILO Project funded by the EU.
I recall 2019 with pleasure. Our first collaboration was within the framework of the 11th National Social Advertising Festival. We introduced a thematic category dedicated to the problems of undeclared work and occupational safety and health. The Project representatives took part in master classes, and we received interesting contest works.
It was followed by collaboration within the Ukrainian Student Advertising Festival in 2020 and 2021. That was a different project, with a different target audience — students. As the organizer and coordinator of those festivals, I feel it is no longer necessary to explain to participants (more than 1,500) what safety and health at work and undeclared work are.
I am confident that the students who took part in those categories will never agree to undeclared work."
More, with better quality
Every year, the number of educational institutions and the students who participate in the festival grows. According to the jury, the quality of the works improves as well.
The attention of the ILO Project representatives to the educational component is a significant advantage of our collaboration. Last year we held three webinars for the festival participants, and this year there were four. More than 350 participants attended some of them. On the one hand, we considered the problems of occupational safety and health and undeclared work, and on the other — creativity and the creation of messages for social advertising.
Our collaboration is significant for both parties. Thanks to the Project, we managed to hold those important events for the education of creative students. And the Project covered a large student audience. During the activities supported by the Project, many exciting advertising products were created to promote declared and safe work.
Also, I have to say about the partners who have represented the Project over these years. It is a great pleasure to work with people who believe in what they do, who are passionate about their work, who openly support the values they proclaim!
Ripple effect
The ILO Project pursues a very important cause for Ukraine, Ukrainians, and their well-being, health and, ultimately, life.
Today's students will go to work tomorrow. And the standards of behaviour at work that they will develop now will accompany them throughout their lives.
Students themselves become ambassadors of those values. They will not remain silent if their friends are offered, for example, a salary off the books."
Moreover, the works created by students will cause a ripple effect that will bring up the right attitudes in others. So, we are on the right track!
