ILO Training package on the ILO Guidelines on decent work and socially responsible tourism

Tourism is an important driving force for inclusive socio-economic development, with significant potential to stimulate sustainable enterprise and decent job creation, particularly for women and young people. As one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing economic sectors, the expansion of the tourism industry is also a catalyst for broader socioeconomic growth, by facilitating the development of micro-, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), infrastructure and public services in tourism destinations.

This training package draws on the ILO Guidelines on decent work and socially responsible tourism. It is designed to enable instructors to promote social dialogue and joint action for decent work and sustainability in the tourism sector, while providing participants with the knowledge and skills to advance socially responsible tourism practices.

This training package is designed as a flexible and comprehensive resource to encourage discussion and active participation. It can be used to train a wide range of participants involved in the tourism sector.

Developed in a modular format, it can be adapted to different national contexts and training needs. It consists of a learning manual containing good practices and key lessons on effective policy design and implementation, and pre- and post-training test questions, along with an instructor’s manual that guides its effective use and delivery.

Designed as a global resource, this training package is intended to evolve over time, and the ILO welcomes feedback to support its continuous improvement.
