The ILO welcomes the adoption of Indonesia’s Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers
Simrin Singh, ILO Country Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, welcomed the adoption of Indonesia’s Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers on 21 April, after 22 years of deliberation. The long-awaited law marks an important step in strengthening legal protection for domestic workers in Indonesia.

It's actually happened in Indonesia on Kartini Day yesterday. I do want to just share something that makes me very happy because the needle shifted just a little bit yesterday.
Something that I have personally been working on for 20 years and my colleagues that are here also have worked on 20 years.
The parliament after 22 years of debate and going round and round in circles agreed and passed a Bill to protect domestic workers
How many of us have someone who has household help? Domestic workers and we need them we need them and they need that job.
t's a great entry level job if it's protected and then it allows other women in the family to be able to work and do other things. So, they passed a Bill to protect these domestic workers which was for years in the land but many countries in the world completely do not want
They say it's culture and I think it's just so happy that I'm here in Indonesia and I can share this wonderful achievement.
There's more to do a lot more to do together to create better jobs and more empowerment for women and show the way and live the message of our meeting.
