SCORE: Small & Medium Enterprises are key to development
SCORE - 'Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises'- is a technical cooperation programme of the International Labour Organization (ILO) that supports the sustainable growth of small and medium enterprises in order to foster development in emerging economies.
Partnering with local employers' organizations and training institutions, SCORE helps Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) adopt socially responsible and environmentally sustainable work methods that boost their productivity.
SCORE is currently funded by the Norwegian and Swiss governments.
Kuoni/Private Safaris, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and national social partners have engaged in an informal partnership to conduct capacity-building for four hotels in Kenya, to help them to improve business performance through improved workplace cooperation and through the adoption of responsible and “lean” management practices (SCORE methodology).
SCORE is an ILO training programme carefully geared to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises and has been tested and adapted to many different sectors around the world. It was first used in the hotel industry in South Africa in 2009 and this video shows the results achieved through the first demonstration of SCORE in Kenya, which has recently come to an end. The four hotels participating in the pilot were Diani Sea Lodge & Sea Resort, Diani Reef Beach Resort & SPA, Msambweni Beach House and Ol Tukai Lodge, Amboseli.
