Protecting the rights of migrant workers by improving their access to accurate information on safe and regular migration

With a view to improve the access of prospective/returned migrant workers to reliable information on safe and regular migration, foreign jobs, labour rights, support services and mechanisms related to migrant workers protection and welfare, the REFRAME project partnered with the Pakistan Workers Federation to build the capacity of 37 (6 women) vibrant trade union leaders to deliver information at the grassroots levels. The project engaged women trade union leaders, as they play instrumental role in disseminating information in their communities, and can support their family in making informed decisions about moving abroad for employment. They can also support family in seeking justice and welfare benefits. Through interaction with trade unions; awareness sessions hosted in the communities, training centres, schools and provision of services to visitors at Resource Centre for Migrant Workers (established at 30 district offices of PWF); the project reached 4,500 direct beneficiaries, and more than 150,000 indirect beneficiaries through word of mouth, social media, and messaging apps. The leaders have witnessed positive behaviour change among beneficiaries, who are now opting for regular channels of labour migration.
