Responsible business conduct in China textile industry
The apparel segment accounted for more than 74% of the global textile product market revenue in 2020 (GVR 2021). China is the world’s leading producer and exporter of both textiles and garments. Many workers in the textile sector earn below the minimum wage and work excessive hours in unsafe conditions. Many workers also do not enjoy social security benefits, particularly when they are hired through contractors/labour brokers.
