A Loss of Innocence – Combating child labour in the Caribbean - 2004. ISBN 92-2-116261-3 - Video (20 minutes) Does child labour exist in the Caribbean? This is a question often asked in light of the ILO’s worldwide campaign to prevent and eradicate child labour. Based on research conducted by the ILO Subregional Office for the Caribbean during 2002-2003, this video documentary explores the issues surrounding child labour in the region. Through compelling images and moving personal stories, the viewer discovers the reality that is child labour – its characteristics and consequences. While the video captures footage of child labour in Trinidad, Jamaica, Belize, Guyana and Suriname, some of the scenes could be almost anywhere in the Caribbean. Since 1999, the International Labour Organization has been spearheading worldwide action to combat child labour, particularly its worst forms, such as the use of children in prostitution, drug trafficking and in work that destroys their physical, mental and moral well-being. Depriving children of their childhood, their potential and dignity, robs them of a brighter future. To rescue them…to restore their innocence…we must all do our part in protecting our children…our future.

The International Labour Organization, Caribbean Office has released "Let Us Try" the theme song for its campaign against child labour in the Caribbean. The campaign is part of the ILO’s global campaign on the elimination of the worst forms of child labour. The song was written and composed by Michael "Ibo" Cooper and Claudeen Nesbeth and produced in Jamaica with the participation of a group of children from Spanish Town in 2000. SCREAM - Supporting Children's Rights Through Education, the Arts and the Media

SCREAM Stop Child Labour is an IPEC education and social mobilization resource package aimed at young people. The package draws on creative and innovative teaching methods to inform them about the world in which they live. It focuses on human rights, social justice, the social dimension of globalization and child labour in particular. The programme fosters the active involvement of a wide range of partner organizations, including the tripartite partners, United Nations agencies, the media, the artistic community, education institutions and non-formal education groups.
