Harassment Policy

Republic of Malawi PUBLIC SERVICE WORKPLACE ANTI-SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY 2023

Government of Malawi realises that upholding of values of human rights is one way of promoting the welfare, dignity and development in line with chapter 4 Section 19 of the Constitution of Malawi on human dignity and personal freedoms. Government recognizes that violation of human rights in the workplace affects performance and service delivery. Sexual harassment (SH) in the workplace is one of the human rights violations affecting both men and women. It is therefore, important that from a human rights perspective, every employee or client who is subjected to various forms of sexual violence receives necessary services and that safeguarding measures are institutionalized. The Public Service Workplace Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy (PSWASHP) will be an entry point for achieving this. The Policy provides a guiding framework for preventing, reporting and responding to sexual harassment issues in the Public Service workplace. It identifies four priority areas, namely: Case Management; Rehabilitation Services for Survivors of Sexual Harassment; Sexual Harassment Safeguards and Conducive Workplace Environment. It also has an implementation plan and a monitoring and evaluation plan.
