Under the UN Joint Programme on Social Protection Floors in Lao PDR, research on the potential impact of social protection on Lao economy was undertaken. The research involved economy-wide modelling to assess the macro-economic impact of a scaled-up social welfare programme for pregnant women and newborn children. It sought to contribute to greater awareness and understanding of policymakers and government officials from different ministries on social protection and domestic resource allocation
