The Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187): a fundamental convention

In June 2022, Convention No. 187 was recognized as a fundamental Convention, along with Convention No. 155, requiring all ILO Member States to respect, promote, and realize its principles. ILO Convention No. 187 introduces an integrated approach to OSH standards, enhancing their coherence, relevance, and impact.

Ratifying Convention No. 187 demonstrates a country’s commitment to ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for all. As an overarching and promotional instrument, it provides flexibility to suit all national conditions and development levels, so that all ILO Member States can ratify and gradually apply its provisions.
