Assala assikola (School is important)
Assala Assikola is a story from Fitri, Andini, Indah and other ex-child scavengers at Antang Landfill, Makassar. When they grew up, the parents prohibited them from working as scavengers. They were only allowed to go to school. However, if they could not continue their education, their parents would arrange a marriage as a cultural tradition in the area that young girls should get married young.
One of the six video diaries produced by the ILO-CO Jakarta in collaboration with Kampung Halaman Foundation (YKH in conjunction with the commemoration of the World Day Against Child Labour 2012 in Indonesia.
