50 young engineers from Basra, successfully completed ILO’s training programme Employment-Intensive Investment Program (EIIP)

In Basra, fifty youth engineers successfully completed the ILO’s training programme Employment-Intensive Investment Program (EIIP) for engineers. This program was designed to provide practical skills and competencies using EIIP approaches and Local Resource-Based (LRB) technologies to support delivering local infrastructure projects. The participants underwent 145 hours of training covered theoretical knowledge, technical training, and on-site assignments.

The training was structured into several key technical streams focused on improving infrastructure activities. These streams covered monitoring construction activities, mapping and organizing labour at construction sites, occupational health and safety (OSH), and quality control for construction materials and processes.

The ILO, in collaboration with UN-Habitat Iraq is implementing training programmes under European Union in Iraq بعثة الاتحاد الاوروبي في العراق funded project "Increasing Access to Employment Opportunities for Vulnerable Urban Population in Basra City in Response to the COVID-19 Crisis” to support youth in their journey to develop their skills and better employment opportunities.
