OFID-Liberia

Although HIV was first detected in Liberia in 1986, there are no systematically developed HIV workplace policies or programmes for high-risk, critical economic sectors such as agriculture including the rubber sector, transport as well as the informal economy. This resulted in the loss and denial of employment, low productivity, high costs to employers due to job turnover, and a reduction in revenues for many corporate entities. The Liberia National Tripartite Committee and the National AIDS Commission, in partnership with the ILO-OFID programme, developed a national workplace policy on HIV and AIDS for the rubber sector. The programme also supported the improvement in HIV and AIDS awareness among youth who are the future workforce of this reconstructing nation.
