OFID-Honduras

The HIV prevalence is 0.8% affecting mostly working age adults from 15-49 yet only 30% of workplaces have HIV prevention programmes. The export manufacturing industry is an important and growing economic sector in Honduras employing over 100,000 workers mostly single and young, therefore the potential impact of HIV on this sector is great. The OFID-ILO partnership programme in Honduras facilitated dialogues between the government, employers’ and workers’ trade union. The engagement of academics in conducting a baseline assessment of the situation provided solid evidence to form the basis in formulating a national HIV workplace policies and programmes for the manufacturing and maritime port sectors.
