Occupational burnout harms the efficiency of the entire enterprise — Alina Vovkoboy, Yana Yukhymenko, Olha Myrhorodska
Alina Vovkoboy, Yana Yukhymenko and Olha Myrhorodska study at the Faculty of Systems and Mass Media at the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. Their poster on burnout won the second place in the "Work safely — save lives and health!" category, supported by the ILO Project funded by the EU. Find out why they chose that subject.
We decided to take part in the festival to test our capacity in advertising, exchange thoughts and ideas with our peers, and raise a topical issue of occupational burnout.
Our work is called "Freelance — it's all about balance". The idea came from our own and our peers' experiences. Today, many people combine studies with freelance work, facing the problem of tight deadlines and intensive work schedules. Quite often, in order to cope with the workload, the workers are forced to sacrifice their personal time and rest, and sometimes even mental and physical health. That is why we wanted to draw public attention to the issue of balanced working hours, because the emotional burnout of a particular individual decreases the efficiency of the entire enterprise where they work.
Another goal is to draw attention to the lack of legislative regulation of freelance work in Ukraine, which would protect the rights of all workers, regardless of their place of work.
Safety and health at work is a complex issue
Taking part in the contest made it possible for us to realise that the concept of safety is extremely multifaceted. It is not only about fire safety and other requirements for working conditions; it is also about preventing emotional burnout, harassment at work; it is about a healthy psychological climate and career opportunities, maintaining a work-life balance and much more. To feel safe, workers need decent working conditions. Such contests make it possible to reveal problems that need urgent resolution.
We want to wish students and young people who work to treat themselves with dignity, value themselves, know their limits and opportunities, not be silent, and speak up about their rights.
