Zambia Green Building Association Participates in the Green Building Convention

As part of the partnership between the National Council for Construction (NCC) and the Zambia Green Jobs Programme (ZGJP), representatives from the Zambia Green Building Association (ZGBA) attended the 2nd 2015 Convention on Green Building Development and Sustainability hosted by the Green Building Council Namibia. The conference was an ideal opportunity to network with green construction experts from other countries and allowed for important insights to be gained on the appropriate course of action for the ZGBA

27 April 2015

The two-day event, titled “Thinking BIG! Sustainable Building, Waste not” offered a wide array of industry topics including global visions of future sustainable city development, a case study in green community engagement and the latest developments in Green Building rating systems. The conference featured a comprehensive range of speakers representing academia, government and the private sector from countries including Namibia, Kenya, South Africa, Australia and Germany.

A two-day training workshop on the Green Star Rating Tool for Existing Buildings, known as Existing Building Performance (EBP) and the Green Star Rating Tool for New Buildings took place prior to the workshop. Important insights gained were related to the fact that there are more than one rating system appropriate for any given country and care should be taken in first understanding market drivers for Green Buildings before pursuing any specific rating system.

These events proved to be an ideal opportunity for ZGBA representatives to network with green construction experts from other countries and report back to the Zambian construction industry on the green building movement within the region and overseas.

The diverse composition of local and international presenters who shared their insight from the perspective of academia, non-government organisations, private and public sectors generated enthusiasm, fruitful discussions and exchange of ideas.
