World Day for Safety and Health at Work in Tajikistan: Workshop for Regional Trade Union Inspectors on Prevention and Elimination of Forced Labour
A two-day workshop for 43 labour inspectors was organised on 25 -26 April 2018 by the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan (FITUT) in cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO).

DUSHANBE (ILO News) - The objective of the workshop was to discuss how to prevent and eliminate forced labour and to inform labour inspectors about the facts and trends of modern forced labour and the related challenges for labour inspection.
The participants also discussed how national labour inspectorates of trade unions could be harnessed more effectively to global efforts against forced labour, human trafficking and child labour.
The workshop allowed 43 trade union labour inspectors unions to better understand modern forms of forced labour and human trafficking, to how it is related to their work and how they can contribute to the global fight against this crime. The workshop also encouraged labour inspectorates of trade unions to enforce relevant laws and to play an active role in the implementation of national strategies aimed at prevention and elimination of forced labour, human trafficking and child labour.
The ILO Moscow Senior Labour Administration, Labour Inspection and Occupational Safety and Health) Specialist Valentin Mocanu attended the workshop to deliver the main message of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. He particularly mentioned the important role of the trade unions’ labour inspectors in pressing employers to provide better and safer working conditions, in promoting close cooperation with the state labour inspectorate in reducing the number of occupational injuries, especially among young workers, in encouraging effective tripartite dialogue on the state level and in investing more in OSH as a basic human right.
The issues of labour protection, ensuring safe working conditions, reducing the level of occupational diseases and occupational injuries have always been among the priorities for trade unions and these issues are constantly in the focus of attention of trade unions’ labour inspection. Currently, 17 Trade Union Committees function under the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan (FITUT). The committees cover all branches of the national economy.
