PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (ILO News) – In an effort to improve skill development, employment services, and advocate for youth rights at work, the National Trade Union of Cambodia (NTUC) organized a dynamic workshop for its members, in Phnom Penh, on 4 - 5 September.
The event, supported by the ILO-China Partnership Programme, saw the participation of 60 people, including ten women, representing various NTUC members, secretariat members, and Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.
The aim of the workshop was to improve the capacity of NTUC as it plans to support its members through various channels, including internal monthly meetings and social media platforms. It also aimed to equip NTUC members with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The workshop was a testament to the importance of collaboration between trade unions and international organizations like the ILO,” said ….. “As Cambodia's workforce adapts to the new realities shaped by the pandemic, initiatives like these are vital for creating a more resilient and empowered labour force.”
NTUC also intends to establish a robust mechanism for collecting information from its members about their employment and skill development needs. This data will help NTUC to understand the specific challenges faced by its members and tailor their support services accordingly. It represents a significant step forward in ensuring that every member has access to the resources they need to thrive in the post-COVID job market.
