Siem Reap, Cambodia (ILO News) Integrating social policies to ensure the delivery of social protection floor is the focus of a workshop to be held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, from Wednesday 29 to Friday 31 May 2013.
The technical workshop on Integrating Social Policies and the Delivery of Social Protection Floors (SPF) is organized by the ILO and the Royal Government of Cambodia. The aim of the meeting is to provide useful models and ideas for the implementation of the national social protection strategy in Cambodia and further development of nationally defined social protection floors in ASEAN.
The goal of the Social Protection Floor is to ensure that everyone has access to affordable essential health care, and that everyone, including children and the elderly, have a guarantee of income security throughout their lives.
H.E Yim Chhay Ly, Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of the Council for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD) will open the workshop together with Mr. Maurizio Bussi, Director, ILO Decent Work Team for East and South-East Asia and the Pacific; H.E. Jean-François Cautain, European Union Ambassador to Cambodia; H.E. Yuji Kumamaru, Ambassador of Japan; Ms. Mega Irena, Head of Division at ASEAN Secretariat; Ms. Claire Van der Vaeren, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cambodia; and Mr. Francisco Simplicio, Chief of Division at UNDP-New York’s Special Unit for South-South Cooperation.
In addition to the policy makers and development partners closely involved in the development and implementation of the Cambodian National Social Protection Strategy, over a hundred guests representing the government, sub-national administration, workers’ and employers’ organisations, civil society, academia, embassies and international organizations from Cambodia and 20 other countries from Asia, Latin America, Africa and Europe will contribute to the workshop.
This workshop is supported by the South-South Exchange initiative of the ILO & UNDP, ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the ASEAN-ILO/Japan project on “Unemployment Insurance and Employment Services in ASEAN”, and the Government of France.
The event will place at the Somadevi Angkor Hotel, starting 8.30 am on Wednesday 29 May, and is open to the press.
