Working Meetings in Kazakhstan
On April 5, 2016, President of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan Abelgazi Kusainov had a meeting with officials of the ILO Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Lejo Sibbel and Sergeyus Glovackas.

Abelgazi Kusainov familiarized the guests with the activities of the Federation, as well as with employment policy implemented in Kazakhstan.
He said that the trade unions were particularly proud with the fact that for the first time in 20 years a representative of the Federation had been elected to the lower house of parliament - the Majilis. Moreover, 742 members of trade unions have been elected to the local executive bodies (maslikhat) at the regional, city and district level.
In turn, Sergeyus Glovackas, ILO Senior Specialist on Workers’ Activities thanked the president of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan for the active mutual cooperation with the ILO.
“The Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan was one of the first in the Central Asia to join the International Trade Union Confederation, and it was a significant step forward. It is also important to note that the trade unions have been actively involved in the elaboration of the national Labour Code, defending the position of workers”, - said Sergeyus Glovackas.
Lejo Sibbel, ILO Senior Specialist on International Labour Standards and Labour Law, noted commitment of the trade unions to promote international labour standards. He particularly stressed the importance of the application of these standards in practice.
ILO experts also conducted a series of meetings with the sectoral trade unions. A separate meeting was held with Larisa Kharkova, president of the Confederation of Free Trade Unions of Kazakhstan, to discuss the situation with protection of trade unions rights.
ILO representatives had a meeting at the Ministry of Health and Social Development with the Deputy Minister Birzhan Nurymbetov.
