Best Start-up Enterprise
Applicants should demonstrate that they are at an early stage of idea conceptualization, but they have gathered credible information and statistics needed to develop a viable business concept. The applicant should have a clear understanding of their need for finance and/or technical support to start up their businesses.
Established Enterprise
Applicants with established enterprises will have been in operation for more than 1.5 years. At this stage o their growth, they should be able to demonstrate a clear need for funding that will expand their business and create more jobs. Again, simple requests for updated technology or equipment will not necessarily result in more jobs so judges should be careful to ensure that applicants selected have a clear case to make in terms of creating new jobs.
Best Women Entrepreneur
Women applicants that appear to be outstanding in terms of their overall business thinking and who would represent good role models for other women entrepreneurs. Judges can use their discretion when considering women applicants who may be eligible for other categories, but should give preference to those that appear to have a business that may be replicated by other women who can learn from their experiences.
Best Green Business
Applicants that demonstrate an outstanding innovative green business idea should be given preference. These may also be associated with the PETCO prize and involve the recycling of plastic PET bottles. Because the category is closely associated with the waste sector, it should be distinguished by a substantive impact on the use of green technology or methods AND the creation of jobs.
Most Innovative Business
In this category, we are searching for ideas that will change the way people do business, or which have developed a new service or product that is truly innovative. An important aspect to consider will be the potential market for the product and how this can be scaled in the Free State province.
Best Master Craft’s Person
Master Craft’s Person ( MCs) play an important role in providing vocational skills to informal apprentices. This prize is an acknowledgement of the MCs’ efforts and is an encouragement to them to continue supporting skills development.
ECONOMIC SECTOR CATEGORIES
Agribusiness: The program has been supporting skills transfer in the following technical areas within the agricultural sector: Fish farming, bee keeping, horticulture, cattle fattening, poultry, piggery, and dairy farming
Manufacturing: The programme has been supporting skills transfer in the following technical and vocations: carpentry and joinery, art and crafts, upholstery, dressmaking, clothing design, interior décor and welding.
Services: The programme has supporting skills transfer in the following technical vocations: hairdressing/cosmetology, plumbing, motor mechanics, auto mechanics, auto electrics, catering and solar installation and maintenance.
Applicants will be selected on the basis that they are adding value to primary products by converting them into one form or another or packaging these for sale in a format that is unique and competitive.
