Ways to implement decent work principles – conference in Chelyabinsk
On March 27-28 Chelyabinsk, Russia’s Urals city, hosted an international research and practice conference focusing on ways to implement decent work principles. It was organized by the ILO, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FNPR), the Federation of Trade Unions of the Chelyabinsk region, Chelyabinsk training centre of trade unions and Urals Social and Economic Institute.

Over 130 delegates to the conference – representatives of the FNPR, trade union activists of the Urals Federal District, neighbouring regions and republics, executive and legislative authorities, employers’ associations, professors from leading education and research institutions and ILO experts – discussed decent wage standards, the role of social partnership in implementing decent work principles, youth employment and pension reform.
ILO Moscow Senior Specialist in Workers’ Activities Sergeyus Glovackas spoke of the International Labour Organization’s projects to improve working conditions and promote youth employment.
Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Chelyabinsk region Nikolai Buyakov said, “productive employment, healthy working conditions and fair wages create the groundwork for decent work, what has always been and remains one of trade unions’ priorities.”
Delegates also visited a museum of South Urals’ trade unions and a production site of the Chelyabinsk Forge-and-Press Plant.
