Visit of Trade Union Federation of Uzbekistan to ILO Headquarters in Geneva
Cooperation between Uzbekistan and the International Labour Organization is progressing. This opinion was voiced as a delegation of Uzbekistan’s Trade Union Federation visited the ILO Headquarters in Geneva.

In June 2018, the delegation attended a workshop on decent work at the invitation of the ILO Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV).
In her welcoming speech to open the workshop, Maria Helena André, ACTRAV Director, noted that Uzbekistan still had to ratify the Tripartite Consultation Convention (No. 144). Further implementation of ILO Recommendation No. 204 was another priority for the country. Environmental protection and sustainable development issues, especially in the Aral Lake region, also required much attention.
She expressed confidence that a visit to the ILO headquarters will allow the Trade Union Federation of Uzbekistan to know the ILO’s goals and objectives, operating principles of its headquarters, gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of international labour standards, get acquainted with relevant relevant compliance mechanisms and supervisory arrangements, get practical experience of social dialogue and tripartism as a key principle of the ILO activities.
Jonas Astrup, Chief Technical Advisor of the Third Party Monitoring of Child Labour in Uzbekistan, noted that the project he headed constantly reported positive developments in Uzbekistan to the ILO Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia and the ILO Headquarters in Geneva. “The Trade Union Federation of Uzbekistan is a key partner of the project”, he said.
In the course of the visit, individual meetings were held with ILO officials - Kari Tapiola, Sergeyus Glovackas, head of the desk for Europe and Central Asia at ACTRAV, and Gocha Alexandria, senior specialist on workers’ activities at the ILO Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
