Uzbekistan: World Day against Child Labour Celebrated in Youth Summer Camp

The celebration organised by the ILO Project “Support for Implementation of the Decent Work Country Programme in Uzbekistan” jointly with the national tripartite constituents and the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis was designed to improve the awareness of children and their parents that the prevention of child labour was a priority of public policies in Uzbekistan.
It was noted that Uzbekistan established and ensured effective operation of the Coordination Council on Child Labour which was instrumental in eradicating child labour during cotton harvesting. Since 2018 the Council includes the representatives of civil society now involved in the decision making process. The Coordination Council has become the first successful example of institutionalized tripartite dialogue on child labour in Uzbekistan.
The celebration event was attended by over 170 children.
Ms. Khodjaeva, Chairperson of the Legislative Chamber’s Committee on Labour and Social Issues, told about the country’s efforts to prevent the child labour. Representatives of the Trade Union Federation played an interactive quiz for children on children’s rights. Anton Hausen, Chief Technical Advisor of the ILO Project, discussed what had been done to eradicate child labour during cotton harvesting.
The children took pleasure in participating in athletic and intellectual contests, with prizes awarded to the winning team. The drawing competition “Work of My Dream” resulted in three winners all of whom received a gift.
The children staged a song and dance folk show for their guests.
