UNESCO partners with the Ministry of Education and International Labour Organization for Grenada workshop on entrepreneurship training
Workshop targets graduates and teachers of the TAMCC, entrepreneurs, as well as curriculum and education officers of the Ministry

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, Grenada, with the technical support of the ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, will host an Entrepreneurship Training Workshop from 13-15 June 2012 at the Allamanda Beach Resort Hotel. The Workshop is part of a wider Curriculum Refocusing project that is financed in collaboration with the Japanese Funds In Trust (JFIT).
A short opening ceremony will take place with speakers from the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Ecclesiastical Affairs, and the T. A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC).
The Workshop targets graduates and teachers of the TAMCC, entrepreneurs, as well as curriculum and education officers of the Ministry. The main facilitator of the Workshop is Kelvin Sergeant, ILO Specialist, Sustainable Enterprise Development and Job Creation based at the ILO Office for the Caribbean. One of Grenada’s leading entrepreneurs is also expected to facilitate the Workshop sessions.
The training will take the participants through the steps of conceptualizing a good business idea to the development of a business plan and organizing and operating a successful business. The legal aspects of business and costing and financial planning will also be covered.
The training is in line with the Ministry of Education’s vision to infuse subjects into the school curriculum which address the development of a well “rounded” graduate, and enhance students’ ‘employability’ skills. Grenada’s Minister of Education, Hon Franka Bernadine, in 2009 set the vision for education “that seeks to make a priority of the refocusing of the National Curriculum, with emphasis being placed on Personal Development, Technical skills and the traditional Academic Focus.” UNESCO, in partnership with JFIT is lending support to the Ministry on this very important initiative.
This skills training activity is in support of one of the major outcomes of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), 2012-2016, for Barbados and the OECS. The ILO technical assistance is delivered as part of the Decent Work Programme for Grenada and contributes to achieving the outcomes of the UNDAF.
