UNDP and ILO to present integration strategy for migrants and refugees from Venezuela
Regional Directors of both organizations will present the joint initiative "Migration from Venezuela: Opportunities for Latin America and the Caribbean" and its first pilot projects

09 March 2021 (Lima, Peru) – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) will announce their regional strategy to reduce the socioeconomic vulnerability of refugees and migrants from Venezuela, as well as maximize contributions to the economies of recipient countries, and promote social cohesion.
Luis Felipe López Calva, UNDP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, will be joined by Vinícius Pinheiro, ILO Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, to present the main plans and objectives of the strategy.
The launch will take place on Wednesday, 10 March at 11:30am Atlantic Standard Time (AST) via Zoom. Media are invited to attend, and simultaneous English interpretation will be provided.
The presentation will also include the participation of the Quito Process, other United Nations agencies, as well as employers' and workers' organizations. Also in attendance will be representatives from the governments of Colombia and Guyana, as both countries will participate in pilot projects through the regional strategy.
The UNDP and the ILO have indicated that the strategy “is aimed at the main host countries of the refugee and migrant population from Venezuela” and one of the main objectives is "to turn migration into a factor of sustainable development.”
