Turkish Conversation Workshop Starts

A Turkish Conversation Workshop was established under the project “Strengthening the Resilience of Syrian Women and Girls” being implemented in Gaziantep jointly by UN Women, ILO and ASAM. Aiming to improve Turkish language skills of women beneficiaries of SADA Women Development and Solidarity Centre, the Workshop started on 1 March 2019. The first level of the workshop is attended by 40 women, including 37 Syrians, 2 Iraqis and 1 Afghan, who completed A2 Turkish language course, and those women who are candidate entrepreneurs and have taken part in establishing the cooperative.
The activities planned at the conversation workshop aim to strengthen women’s language skills and enable them to achieve lasting success in public space and working life. Encompassing 10 modules, namely personal information and introduction, routine daily dialogues, education and working life, individual in social and urban life, information sources and media, leisure and entertainment, different cultures, invitations and celebrations, past events and history, social and current issues; the workshop will complete its work in two months. Using interactive training methods and tools, women at the workshop hold debates, play various games, watch movies together, and engage in practical daily conversation on street. In this context, some of the workshop beneficiaries go to the bazaar for shopping, some go to public agencies, and some other go to shopping centres and engage in practical conversation. Once the training is completed, a two-day seminar will be organised focusing on women’s fundamental rights in Turkey, agencies to which women can apply, and women at working life. Further in the context of workshop activities, women will organise an event to exhibit their works.
