A new series of webinars, based on tripartite discussions of the relevant ILO Conventions and Recommendations started in Dushanbe. Each webinar introduces a set of relevant international labour standards, and the participants are invited to identify how the ILO Conventions provide a basis for building a common tripartite agenda on labour, employment and social policies.
At the webinar held on 21 May, members of the National Tripartite Committee and development partners discussed the Employment Policy Convention, 1964 (No. 122).
The webinar was opened by Mr. Nurullo Mahmadullozoda, First Deputy Minister of Labour, Employment and Migration. He emphasized the timeliness of the ILO’s technical support in the time of an ongoing consultative processes for drafting a new employment strategy called “Concept for productive employment of the Republic of Tajikistan”, complemented by institutional reforms for strengthening social dialogue mechanisms.
During the meeting, the ILO officials, Mauricio Dierckxsens, Ana Torriente and Ramiro Pizarro exchanged views with the First Deputy Minister about the opportunity for Tajikistan to consider the ratification of the Employment Policy Convention No. 122, taking into consideration that the new employment strategy is expected to be approved by the end of 2021. The ILO will provide additional support to assess the implication of adopting this Convention and to define a tentative roadmap to speed up the ratification process.
The next meeting will discuss the ILO Conventions and Recommendations in the area of social protection, in particular the potential application of the international labour standards for building a common agenda for an enhanced coordination between employment and social protection policies.
