Training Seminar on Child Labour for Social Workers and School Personnel.
Following the visit to Moscow in July 2002 by the ILO Director General Juan Somavia, a Training Course on Child Labour for Social Workers and School Personnel was held on 10-11 June in the South –Western District of Moscow. The seminar was organized under the leadership of Professor Vladimir Kasatkin, member of the Moscow Interdepartmental Commission for Minors and for Protection of their Rights (KDN) and Director of the Center for Psychological, Medical and Social Support to Minors and Teenagers of the Moscow City Department of Education.

The Moscow Federal State Employment Department, experts from the Moscow State University, Moscow State Education Department, Moscow State Pedagogical Institute and the Institute for Psychology took part in the workshop preparations. ILO Programme Manager of the project for the elimination of child labour in St. Petersburg as well as IPEC experts from the St. Petersburg University lectured to an audience of forty social experts and teachers of special schools.
The workshop contributed to establishing closer cooperation between different organizations of educational and social work at the district level. The programme will strengthen schools, which are the most important part of the institutional framework needed for an effective prevention of child labour in Russia. It will bridge the gap between the education system and the one of social work and serve as an example and model for similar training in other districts of Moscow.
