Training Programme on Anticipating Skills Needs for Representatives of TVET, NTA and Tourism Institutions to be conducted

The ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean and the Inter-American Centre for Knowledge Development in Vocational Training (ILO/Cinterfor), with the support of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and the National Industrial Training Service (SENAI), Brazil, will be hosting a joint Workshop on Anticipating Skills Requirements in Tourism: Occupational Trends and Emerging Demands at the ACS Secretariat in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on May 6th and 7th, 2014.
The two day Workshop, which will take place at ACS Headquarters in Port of Spain, will be the first of two face-to-face Workshops as part of a seven month training Programme. Representatives from national training agencies (NTAs) with relevant technical skills and experience, and officials from Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and selected tourisms institutions will be participating. The two face-to-face Workshops will be followed by a virtual community of learning and practice.

The main objectives of this Programme are:
- to train participants on the prospective concepts, main tools and methodologies, based on SENAI’s Model, and present the Model to industry representatives of the sectors to be studied;
- to work together with participating entities and ILO on the necessary knowledge management for the organization and preparation of the prospective tools and methodologies;
- to establish a set of sectorial recommendations for skills development and vocational training after the identification of technological diffusion trends in the Caribbean and its impacts on the main occupations.
The participating institutions in this Programme are:
- The TVET Council of Barbados;
- The Human Employment and Resource Training Trust, National Training Agency (HEART Trust/NTA) Jamaica;
- The National Training Agency (NTA) Trinidad and Tobago;
- Instituto Técnico Superior Comunitario from the Dominican Republic;
- Ministry of National Reconciliation, the Public Service, Labour Information and Ecclesiastical Affairs from St. Vincent and the Grenadines; and
- The National Training Service (SENA) from Colombia.
