Training activity held for trade unions on ILO Conventions 189 and 190

The ILO Office for Spain, in collaboration with the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITC-ILO) in Turin and the ILO Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) organised on 16 and 17 May 2023 a training action in Madrid to analyse the ratification and application of ILO Conventions 189 (domestic work) and 190 (violence and harassment at work) and their impact and application in the current Spanish regulations. The training had been requested by the international departments of the CCOO and UGT trade union centres and was aimed at training women's departments, legal offices, international officers and other experts from both trade union organisations.
The purpose of these training sessions was to deepen knowledge of the ILO conventions, their application in law and practice, the supervisory mechanisms of both conventions in the ILO bodies and, finally, to reflect on the experience of trade union participation in this process and to identify the main lines of a possible roadmap to promote immediate application in Spanish law and practice. Spain ratified ILO Convention 190 on 25 May 2022 and Convention 189 on 28 February 2023, both coming into force one year after ratification.
In addition to representatives of the mentioned ILO departments, trade union representatives from the women's, legal and international departments, as well as the Director General of Labour on behalf of the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy, took part in the training activity. The conference was complemented by a working session on the control mechanisms of ratified conventions, with special attention to trade union intervention.
