Trade unionists gather for conference in Russia’s Siberian city

On August 26-29 the international conference focusing on trade unions’ role in promoting decent work standards took place in Chita, Russia’s Siberian city.

The conference brought together over 100 representatives of the ILO, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia, territorial trade union associations from the Siberian Federal District, regional bodies of power and regional ministries.

The participants developed recommendations for enhancing trade unions’ role in promoting decent work standards – decent wages, social partnership, effective employment and social insurance.

The conference placed a special focus on modernization of pension system-related laws. The debate involved Russian Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection Andrei Pudov and Deputy Chair of Russia’s Pension Fund Board of Directors Nikolai Kozlov, ILO senior social security specialist Mariko Ouchi.
