Total number of Russia's unemployed goes up by 2% in October

The total number of unemployed people in Russia counted by standards of the International Labor Organization (ILO) went up by 1.7 percent in October 2008 as compared to the previous month and exceeded 4.62 million, which made up 6.1 percent of Russia's able-bodied citizens, the Prime Tass economic news agency said on Friday, quoting a regular report of the Federal State Statistics Service.
At the same time, the official unemployment rate this October decreased by 0.2 percent as against the previous month and amounted to 1.245 million, Prime Tass said.
The Statistics Service estimated the number of able-bodied citizens at 76.2 million in Russia at the end of October 2008, which makes more than 53 percent of the overall country's population, Prime Tass said.
According to statistics, 52 percent of all employed in September 2008 were engaged in the organisations unrelated to small business.
