Timor-Leste to showcase road projects using labour-based works in Benin

Representatives from the National Directorate of Roads, Bridges and Flood Control (DRBFC) of the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MPWTC) of Timor-Leste, together with staff from the Roads for Development (R4D) and Enhancing Rural Access (ERA) programmes, will participate in the XVIth Regional Seminar for Labour-Based Practitioners in Cotonou, Benin, from 26-30 October 2015.

The seminar is organized by the Government of Benin in partnership with the ILO, highlighting the theme: “Labour-based approaches as solutions for sustainable development challenges in the context of decentralization.”

The Seminar brings together practitioners of labour intensive work, policy makers, planners, researchers and development partners to discuss and exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences in terms of policies, practices and technologies in this area.

The delegation from Timor-Leste will present a paper and showcase the work implemented by the R4D and ERA programmes using labour-based approaches in Timor-Leste.

R4D, funded by the Australian Government, and ERA, funded by the European Union, are two large scale programmes implemented by the ILO together with the Government of Timor-Leste. These programmes aim to improve the country’s rural infrastructure by developing capacities of local companies and MPWTC for the planning and implementation of labour-based rural construction and maintenance.
